Elwood

WOODLANDS HISTORIC SITE, NATIVE GRASSES LIFE CYCLE PROJECT

Over the past 200 years, Victoria’s native grasslands have been devastated, with less than 0.5% remaining today. Home to many threatened flora and fauna species, including the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, these grasslands are now the most critically endangered ecosystem in Australia.

Across 2020, The Evodia Grassroots Conservation Fund is working with our partners, Conservation Volunteers Australia, to roll out a native grass life cycle project at the Woodlands Historic Site, Victoria, and help rebuild one of the last pockets of grasslands.

Seed harvesting is an important step in the whole revegetation process. To kickstart the project, we brought our friends and family to harvest hundreds of native grass seeds to be raised and planted in the future.

UPDATE: Despite COVID-19 and physical distancing requirements in the state of Victoria, this project is still underway! We look forward to bringing you updates on this project throughout the year.
